We’re fresh back from ProtoCON BC 2025 and ready to tell you all about it!

Brought to us by masterminds like Litera-Seas creator Jae Euteneier and volunteers like our own Gabriel Watcher, ProtoCON joins other local Vancouver cons like TCTC and TTRPG Kids Con. Guys, our city’s grown a scene. Who would have thought?
The inaugural year was fairly cosy, but I could really see it becoming a huge event. Designers showed up Friday night to pitch their games and get sign-ups for playtesting slots later in the weekend. I was there showing the colours for Blood Prairie.
Blood Prairie Playtestin’
We had a great reaction!
I ended up sitting six players for the Saturday afternoon playtest. We only lost one PC. Big thanks to Ryan, Nicolas, Dirk, Rockey, Nav, and Rob Soo for playing. Rob did the art for an interesting-looking Mech game called Metal Justice. Rob, if you’re reading this, send me a link! The game looked great.
We got some great feedback. People seemed to really respond to the setting, and no one took the game’s high lethality amiss. We had a quick discussion about what character classes work and which don’t. People seemed to like every class except Escaped Human Cattle, which was a nice change from our home game, where they liked Cattle but not Frontier Psychiatrist. Ultimately, both classes probably need a zhuzh! Thanks for helping us find those stress points, folks!
See you, Space Cowboy
Big shout-out to our friend Ryan, who was showcasing his game Cavern Shuffle. It was at the next table over from me, and it seemed to be getting its well-deserved roses from everyone who stopped to try it. If you haven’t played it yet, do! It’s a great little solo game. Even Yochai Gal thinks so!
Here’s hoping you’ll all join us next year! We’ll see you at the playtests! Hopefully, we’ll be bringing something super cool! An all-human-made-art QuestCrawl Box Set, perhaps?
Thanks for reading! Check out our report from Terminal City Tabletop Convention for more Con talk, or take a free peek at this crazy Troika adventure, the kind we specialize in! If you’ve got a couple of bucks to spare, consider buying a game from us.
