OSE Encounters: Fire Troll on a River Bridge

We’ve done System-Agnostic Trolls, now it’s time for an OSE-specific one.

Theodore Kittelson, Study of a Troll washing its Brat, ~1900ish

As our 5e meat-space campaign has drawn down, we’re pivoting into OSE! I GM’d a one-shot the other week to introduce the gang to the system; of the six players, I only murdered the two characters of the two women I live with! Success!

But enough about my domestic sitch. Have a troll:

Four-armed Fire Troll

A red-maned troll pulls himself from an extra-dimensional space beneath a tiny stone bridge. Which path will you dare: the bridge or the river? The Troll calls the river ‘the death’; he offers safe passage in exchange for a toll or the answer to his riddle.

HD 8, AC 10, x2 claws d6, ML11 (5 in water)
Regens d8/round in the presence of fire and whenever hit with fire
Takes d20 damage when starting a round in water.

Troll Riddle: Little army, tiny blades, conquer fields and foreign glades, soldier green and brown they die, Troll asks riddle: Who am I? (Grass)

Troll Toll: 1 meal (live food only)

If you try the River Save vs Paralysis or lose a random item + d4 damage.

Comment Below, but Don’t Troll Me Bro!

A tiny troll encounter for your OSE-ing enjoyment! This guy was a lot of fun in play, but his riddle was too easy; comment below if you can think of a better one for a fire troll guarding a river bridge.

Enjoyed this Troll? Take a look at our adventures or sign up for our mailing list! We’ve got plenty more where this came from. Stay tuned for updates about our new PocketQuest game-jam game. We’re provisionally calling it WakeSiders: What Dreams May Run. Here’s our entry for the first PocketQuest; we hope to blow this one out of the water!
